Artist’s Request for Proposals
Connect the Dots Arts Festival
Sunday, September 20, 2009, 11 AM – 5 PM
The Connect the Dots Arts Festival is a collaboration between the Art Lab, the artists in residence at Snug Harbor; the Children’s Harbor; the Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island (COAHSI); the Noble Maritime Collection; SIcoLab; and the Staten Island Museum.
Among those planned are the Staten Island Museum’s 59th Annual
Fence Show, the Art Lab’s annual Open House and the opening of Community & Connection; open studios; and free admission to arts programs.
A series of dots designed by artists, who will draw them in water-soluble chalk on the sidewalks and roadways of Snug Harbor, will guide visitors around the site. People who wish to create dots will work within a circle 15” in diameter in chalk provided.
Each dot site will be marked with a flag, and participants will wear buttons that say Ask me about my dot!
Works completed by 2 PM will be eligible for first, second, and
third place cash prizes of $25, $50, and $100 respectively.
The dots will be removed at the end of the day.
To participate, an artist must submit a rough sketch of the proposed dot and arrive at the festival on the morning of the event to create it. Proposal must be submitted no later than 5 PM on Friday, September 4, 2009.
