Staten Island Artists for Art Mix-Up at the Cup, November 22

Are you a Staten Island artist? Do you want to meet other Staten Island artists while showing your work and possibly selling a piece or two? I'm looking for Staten Island only artists for the first Art Mix-Up at the Cup on November 22, 5-10 p.m. The Cup is located in Stapleton on Van Duzer Street. You will have to bring your own easel or stand, but there is a stage and plenty of table space.

Please email or call me right away if you'd like to show, along with a picture or two of the piece/pieces you'd like to bring. This should be a great event for artists to mingle and show. Any medium, as long as you can carry it in and carry it out. Bring plenty of business cards! I don't think we can use the projector, but if you do have a film you'd like to show...I can inquire. I'd like to get about 25 artists...there is definitely enough space in there, so if you know anyone...please send them my way. Looking forward to this, it should be great!

Thanks!

Miriam
Want to watch/screen my movie?

Hey Everybody,
first: thank you to whoever offered music for my soundtrack. I think I've just about filled all the gaps but I appreciate your interest.
The soundtrack I refer to is for the full-length doc about Staten Island I just completed, "Road Trip: Staten Island." It's been my labor of love for over a year and I'm ready to share it with the island. On November 2nd I return to Israel (where I moved 6 months ago) but I'm hoping to hold screenings around the borough throughout October. Does anyone have any ideas for venues?
If you're curious, this is a link to a video sample I put together half a year ago when applying for a finishing grant: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU2yrOiUoVE
Hope October's an exciting month in Staten Island film history!
Looking For People to Start a Subway Art Crawl

I recently moved back to New York and noticed just how much artwork there is in the subways. Too much to see in one day, and it's all over, all 5 boroughs. Is anyone interested in starting a monthly crawl? Maybe do a line at a time, borough by borough? Let me know!

Hey,

For details, specifics and to get in touch with me, please check out http://upcycledjournal.weebly.com/ and/or http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=127596194620&ref=nf .
Be part of Staten Island cinematic history!

I'm nearing the completion of a full-length documentary about Staten Island, "Road Trip: Staten Island." However, the body of the fine cut is missing some music. As the soundtrack is to consist entirely of locally made music, I'm asking you to submit original pieces.

The themes in the film I'm looking to soundtrack are:
Little town, big city
Long commute,
suburban ennui,
A house of my own, privacy,
Retirement, migration to New Jersey.

Of course the pieces don't have to be about any of these ideas, just harmonious with them. Lyric-heavy pieces are not recommended.

You'll get full credit at the end of the film, which will, God willing, be screened at various venues on the island in October.

If you're curious, check out an (informal) trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dU2yrOiUoVE

CALL FOR HELP - 100 Things you need to know about Staten Island

In case you didn't read about my outrage on facebook today, I've decided to compile a list of 100 facts about staten island to be put in a tri-fold brochure and subsequent website.

This idea was spawned after a recent transplant from Brooklyn asked me "What is Shaolin?" then asked "Wu Tang is from SI?"

This project is called:
Staten Island: The Shit You Need to Know
100 important things to know if you plan on living, working, or being in Shaolin.

Some of you guys have already given me a bunch of great ideas on Facebook. I've decided to filter these out to 100 facts (for brochure reading) and going into more detail for some of the facts. The website will house more information for all the facts.

I currently have 7 sections:
1. The People
2. The Past
3. The Present
4. Culture
5. Dining
6. Nightlife
7. Recreation
8. Misconceptions

I am obviously open to re-categorize need be.

I am asking for your help because I know that I can make a list, but it wont be comprehensive without you.

What I'm asking for:
Facts, Trivia, Tidbits about Staten Island. Don't worry about going into too much detail, that's my job. I plan on listing the 100 facts and providing detail to the most "reader friendly" ones. Again, the website will have details for all facts.

So, if you have any facts to offer, please email them to me! Obviously all submissions will be rightfully credited.
