STATEN ISLAND OutLOUD OFFERS FREE CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP FOR YOUNG ISLANDERS

Staten Island OutLOUD invites Island youth, ages 10-18, to Young Writers OutLOUD, free workshops in creative writing and spoken-word performance. Our workshops begin Wednesday, July 1st, 2-4pm, and continue every Wednesday afternoon through August 12 at the Richmondtown branch of the New York Public Library, 200 Clarke Avenue. The workshops are free, but reservations are required; call 718-907-0709 to RSVP.

Our Young Writers OutLOUD workshops give youth a chance to stretch their creative muscles this summer. They'll create their own original work as they explore exciting classics and contemporary work. Every week they'll have a chance to grab the microphone and perform their own work. We'll even have musical accompaniment. It's all free!

Young Writers OutLOUD's workshops will be lead by Gary Moore, a Stapleton writer and musician who appears regularly in a jazz-blues combo "The Guys In the Band". Moore was a special ed teacher for nearly 30 years in the NYC public school system, and recently completed a memoir about his years as a teacher.

Assisting Gary is Jill Feigelman,OutLOUD's Summer Writing Intern. Jill, a St. George resident, is a sophomore at Syracuse University, majoring in journalism. She served as a young reporter for the Staten Island Advance while she was a student at Curtis High School. Jill has been active as an OutLOUD participant since she was a high school freshman.

Young Writers OutLOUD enhances kids' appreciation of American classics, and encourages them to find their own creative writing styles.
